How I build clinical & emotional support & manage medications
My care team included my neurologist, my sister, who is a medical doctor, and Silvia Sánchez Goñi, my nurse, dietitian specialized in ketogenic diets, and health coach. Each member of the team had a different role, but together they helped me. My neurologist continued to monitor my Parkinson’s disease and was responsible for managing my medication. Reducing or stopping my Parkinson’s medication was not one of my initial goals. As my metabolic therapy progressed, I noticed that I could skip my 6pm dose of Sinemet without experiencing the same degree of rigidity I had previously. The most significant change in my treatment journey was not a reduction in medication, but the fact that my overall improvement was substantial enough for me to decide not to proceed with deep brain stimulation surgery, for which I had already been placed on the waiting list.
Integration
Lab results I track & supplements I take
For the first three months, I did not take any supplements or receive any complementary therapies; we wanted to see what the ketogenic diet could achieve on its own. After: vitamins, minerals, trace elements, MCT, ozonotherapy, IV vitamine C, glutation. I continued with my regular medical follow-up and routine laboratory testing as part of my neurological care.
Nutritional
How I eat, incorporate fasting, & approach macronutrients
I did not have specific macronutrient targets or strictly count macros or calories. I began following a strict ketogenic diet focused on keeping carbohydrates very low, with a high intake of healthy fats, moderate protein, and low-glycemic vegetables. After 2'5 months on the KD, I began IA (no breakfast) with a shorter daily eating window. Later, I gradually introduced two-day fast about once a month. I cheat on special occasions with a return or worsening of symptoms.
Ketosis
Target ketone levels & testing methods
Yes I measured my ketones in blood using a ketone meter at home. We did not focus on reaching a rigid ketone target. The first months, my ketone levels rarely went above 0.5 mmol/L, but I was already experiencing significant clinical improvements.
