Gwenaëlle Thomas, PhD

Program Officer, Neuroscience

Gwenaëlle supports Baszucki Group’s metabolic psychiatry evidence-building and science advocacy. Her career spans biomedical academic research, science nonprofit administration, and consulting. With over a decade of experience in neuropsychopharmacology, she specializes in understanding how medications affect brain function and behavior. Her expertise in Schizophrenia is complemented by her research on other conditions, including Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Previously, Gwenaëlle served as Scientific Project Manager at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development, managing private, philanthropic, and NIH-funded research portfolios on psychiatric and neurological disorders. She oversaw the African Ancestry Neuroscience Research Initiative and implemented community-based participatory research in Baltimore City. As a science communicator, she has collaborated with organizations like NAMI, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, One Mind, and BlackInNeuro to advance science education and mental health advocacy.

Gwenaëlle is an adjunct faculty member at Morgan State University, teaching in the Applied Neuroscience Masters program. She earned her Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Duke University, School of Medicine and dual B.S. degrees in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Based in Maryland, she enjoys creating art, cooking, and exploring nature.
